Louis XV his grandson ascended to the throne as King Louis XVI in France. He was born in 1754 and killed in 1793.
The French Louis XVI style is associated with the Neoclassical style.
The Louis XVI style advocates simpler, less ornate furniture design. Straight lines and simplicity are the guiding principles of this period.
The most typical feature in the constructional details of Louis XVI furniture is the fluted leg and at the end is square box filled with a rosette.
The furniture is usually finished in natural wood with mahogany the most commonly used.
